ANNOUNCING NEW BEGINNINGS -- THE 4th ANNUAL MAY IS: ALL ABOUT TRANS MONTH-LONG CELEBRATION
Over 20 Virtual Events Highlighting the Transgender, Gender Nonconforming, and Nonbinary communities.
Washington DC -- May Is: All About Trans is pleased to announce the 4th annual month-long celebration. Given the current COVID pandemic, the organization has decided to make the celebration virtual for the second year in a row. However, this crucial programming for the community will be produced from Saturday, May 1st to Saturday, May 29th and will focus on bringing together multiple communities through initiatives such as art viewings, open mic nights, educational outreach events and more.
The goal is to foster a better understanding of what it is like to be a person who is trans, gender non-conforming and nonbinary. New this year, May Is will include national satellite stations throughout the country including: Honolulu (Hawaii), Tampa, Miami, Orlando (Florida), Dallas, Houston (Texas), San Francisco, Los Angeles (California), Portland (Oregon), Brooklyn, Bronx, (New York), Chicago (Illinois), Prince Georges County, Baltimore (Maryland), Alexandria, Front Royal (Virginia), Nashville, Memphis (Tennessee), and Boston (Massachusetts).
Over twenty events have been planned and programming will include conversations, celebrations, presentations, performances, and more in English, Spanish, and ASL, to include: HIV & PrEP, Trans Youth Town Hall, Adult Town Hall, Mental Health For All, Trans Led Leadership, Transmasculine & Feminine conversations, Pronouns: What do they mean?, Love & Family, Legal Clinics, speakers to include Asian Pacific Islander, Indigenous, Black, Latinx, and more, along with Open Mic and Movie Night. The celebration will also include a redeveloped TransPride (May 15th) Celebration formerly known as Capital Trans Pride.
May Is: is led by a dynamic Board that stands ready to represent for the betterment of their community. Board members include: Diedre Gray, Ian Brown, Amy Nelson, Chris Holleman, David Joseph Moody, Maverick Hill, and Founder and CEO, SaVanna Wanzer. The group is a trans-led non-profit organization aimed to provide true empowerment and inclusion leaving no communities behind or ignored.
